Residents in care homes have legal protections, including:

• Right to dignity and respect. Staff must treat residents with care and respect at all times.

• Right to make choices. Residents can decide on daily activities, meals, and personal care.

• Right to complain. Families or residents can raise concerns with the care home, the CQC, or the Local Government Ombudsman.

• Right to leave. A person can move out of a care home at any time, as long as they arrange alternative care.

• Protection from eviction. Residents can only be asked to leave if there is a legitimate reason, such as unpaid fees.

End of Life Care

Remember you have the right to challenge decisions made up your care or someone else’s. This is particularly important when it comes to terminal illnesses. People with terminal illnesses have a right to palliative care through the NHS or social care system.

Right to Safeguarding

Vulnerable adults have the right to be protected from abuse or neglect. Local authorities must investigate concerns and take action if necessary.

• Under the CARE ACT 2014 your local authority must carry out an assessment to check if you require care and support and to understand your needs.

• After carrying out the assessment, the local authority will then advise if you are eligible for support and provide a CARE AND SUPPORT PLAN.

• REMEMBER - you are a CUSTOMER OF THE NHS so have a A SAY IN YOUR CARE !
